Um, yeah. So it turns out i can write well...
Hello fellow writers! Thank you for taking the time to read my post!
I'm just starting the journey of writing, have written a few short stories, some poems and am in the process of writing an Autobiographical Novel.
But here's the thing, I don't really know what I'm doing! Here's the gist of it, I'm a 41 year old high school dropout former skateboard punk, have no higher learning and the last time I read a book was about 10 years ago. I had never written anything after about eighth grade. And of the required reading? Those books sat collecting dust in a locker. Really.
I suffer from depression, suicidal thoughts, feelings and emotions on a daily basis. Every few weeks I have "the day", my mind is riddled with negative thoughts and almost incapacitates me. It usually lasts about twenty four hours then dissipates allowing me to return to my "normal" of pushing through. Why does this matter? Because... a gal I was seeing in January of 2015 asked me to send her a text and describe what I was feeling on "the day" so she could get a better understanding of what I was going through.
Well, the day arrived and I wrote about how I was feeling with one difference, I changed "I" to "he". I wrote about how I was feeling in the third person, kind of. I wrote it about somebody else and the words flowed easily. I hit send and a short time later this was her response, "jesus Conrad, you need to get your words published." I sat back pondering her intention, was she trying to encourage me in an attempt to make me feel better? Or was she being serious? Well, it turned out she was being serious. I shared the story (demons) with others and received more positive feedback. Then I wrote some more stories and holy hell guess what? People love my work and always ask for more. Who knew? I sure didn't and am now on a journey of self discovery.
Any help, direction and guidance would be much appreciated! I'll gladly do the same for other rookie writers as soon as I have a better understanding of the process.
Oh, and as soon as my fifty posts are up, I'll post "Demons" as that's where it all started for me. And then "Like Me" as that's the last story I wrote. In the meantime it looks like I can post in the Poem forum, check it out :)
Thank you
Conrad
