Why is all weather now considered horrifying?

Weather can be scary. Preparation is good. But not all "weather events" are really that big of deal.

I have had at least a dozen close calls with tornadoes. Sat through 1 small hurricane. Another couple of tropical storms.

A "century flood" ran my in laws to a different home and ruined their old one. 6" from the roof was the water level.

My older brother was an idiot at age 17 and drove across a long, flooded low water bridge. His truck flooded out. (The engine stopped) He used to action of the starter, with his truck out of gear to "lug" his truck 75 feet to high ground. In a little while, after drying out his distributor cap, his truck started.

Now, that trick, where Hurricane Katrina didn't flood much of New Orleans from the beach side, but poured in later from the broken levees...that was unfair and sneaky.

Yet, every storm and every front that passes through, is not a reason for multiple nationally covered TV news conference.

Crazy man.
