I got into horror a month or two ago, got back into it today. (I've wanted to get into it for a while, been scared of being scared, and finally decided I wanted to be scared.) The problem is... virtually nothing I've read has scared me. I've read a chunk of Lovecraft and Lovecraftian works, of which only the very end of Mountains of Madness scared me at all. "Details" by China Mieville creeped me out, but that didn't scare me overmuch. And now I'm reading Mister B. Gone, which I'm halfway through and despite having expected to be scared completely hasn't scared me at all.
So here's the thing: Am I reading the wrong things, or am I just a defective horror reader? Are these things supposed to scare me and I'm just not getting it, or am I somehow picking up un-scary things? And if the latter--what should I read that will legitimately scare me?
