So, I was at a big writers conference over the weekend and in my bag of goodies was a nice, little USB thumb drive. Can I keep it? I mean, not to hang on the Christmas tree, but to actually use it?
I've heard the dangers of these things carrying malware, but I can't tell if it's a worry along the lines of waking up in a bathtub full of ice next to a phone and note to call 911. (By the way, that didn't happen at Bouchercon. Raucous as it was, I still have my kidneys, although I think my liver is miffed at me.)
If it matters, the freebie was from Smashwords, so a known company might not want to pollute everyone's computers - or am I merely rationalizing?
