I'm looking forward to sharing ideas with this group of aspiring and accomplished writers. To begin, I'll share some background info leading up to why I'm writing a book on Descriptive Psychology in the Wiley for Dummies style. I have a Physics degree from Rice U. and a Ph.D. in Math from UCLA. I've worked in a variety of applications, including oil and gas and aerospace, am a volunteer Archeologist, and have lived overseas in three countries. While preparing to leave Denver in 1987 to work in the NASA manned space program in Houston, I met (through a six degrees of separation process) Dr. Pete Ossorio, the founder of Descriptive Psychology. We hit it off and he became interested in my new Lunar/Mars modeling and simulation work; I used some of the aspects of Descriptive in creating the models and, when the proposed missions showed that the crew would be soon overloaded, we designed 'person-like' robots to help the crew. Pete insisted that I join his Society for Descriptive Psychology (SDP), I did, and since have learned a great deal about its applications in clinical therapy and counseling, communities, status dynamics, and Philosophy. Folks in the SDP wanted to find a way to make Descriptive available to everyday people, but, alas, most of the existing writing was too tough to follow. (One member, Wynn Schwartz, did put up a Web site.) Last November, I offered to 'bell the cat' and the SDP encouraged me to start writing. So here I am.
