Publishing a YA novella. Not sure what i'm doing.

I searched around a bit here, and on the googleverse. Google has a lot of random articles on it, and some good information; However, I thought I would come here and ask. If I'm missing a great thread somewhere, don't hesitate to point it out.

Some background:
I have one published short story in a virtually unknown ebook anthology.
My story is a YA Novella at approximately 20k words.

So in short, I'm basically unknown, unpublished, and have this Novella sitting in front of me. From what I can tell, normal publishing isn't really a way to go from my situation. I had a few random ones interested in talking to me about it a few months ago, but they seemed pretty shady. I have no experience with publishers though, so I'm not exactly sure what all the warning signs are.

My next thought was to just do self-publishing on amazon (or other sites), which seems like a valid idea. My next problem was editing. From what I can tell, hiring one online will cost around $500+ for the length of my book. I've had a beta reader, and gone through with grammar software, but obviously there are things I probably missed. I'm assuming though, that self-publishing without an editor is a fairly rookie mistake.

I'm wondering if you guys have any opinions or suggestions on publishing and editing methods to help me out.
