Start of 2nd novel. Will it affect editing of existing rough draft.

I am revising and editing my rough draft and am 65% through the first pass. It is slow going because I am adding context that is needed, rewriting sentences, fixing absolute nonsensical wording, clarifying, and doing some light copy editing. It's a really rough draft.

I also have a second story idea that I do not want to lose the umphhhh factor.

If I start story research and notes and some writing, will this mess up my editing on the first piece?
