Reading some novels I notice that the antagonist is not one person or other obstacle, but many. Is this normally done?
Also, sometimes the antagonist is introduced towards the opening, sometimes not until a little later, even a few chapter later.
What is generally accepted by readers and writers?
After 60k words I have many obstacles and several antagonist. I have seen this done by published authors. But am I weakening things by not having a central, very strong individual antagonist?
Does it change with genre? I suspect it does.
Any experienced replies appreciated. Or unexperienced I guess. Just need thoughts from others.
