How long does it take you to write a chapter?

dimanche 23 août 2015

I noticed that some authors complete a novel in three to six months. I presume they're either professional authors or they write every day. Me on the other hand write two to three times a week, if I'm lucky. So I won't tell you how long it’s taking me in months or years. What I did was average my writing time in hours. I figured that I spend about fifty hours per chapter. This includes all stages, including the research. Even though my novel is Sci-Fi, I need to be accurate and precise in many ways, so my research is extensive.

It’s also my first novel. I think it’s important to add that I have no writing specific education. What I learn about writing comes mostly from books, the internet and my favourite source, this forum, thank God for this forum. One more thing, I don't care how long it takes me. I'm well aware I'll never make a living writing. I'm enjoying myself tremendously, not to mention I'm feeling pretty good about the results so far. Why am I saying all this, I want to know if my investment of fifty hours per chapter is normal for a case like me.
