I never had a way to describe it until I saw the pilot episode of Elementary. Specifically the bit where he tells Joan that he is writing a book about bee culture, and that he's up to chapter 19. "Would you like to hear it?" He's just watching his bee hive at the time.
All of my life, I always had the story in my head first. A lot of my day would be spent walking to work, or walking home, and since I am alone so much, I spend a lot of time in my head, mentally writing the scenes of the story. Sometimes, I can literally write an entire chapter by the time I get to my computer, but if I don't write it down straight away, like as soon as I get home, then it's like my brain deletes the unsaved file. I know the gist of what I wanted to write, but the actual words are gone, and I can't force them to come back out.
Has anyone ever experienced this? Have you ever "recovered" a lost file.
