Self-Publishing previously published work?

samedi 10 octobre 2015

I've searched the forum, but I apologize in advance if this has been asked before and I managed to miss it.

A few years ago, I published a handful of short stories and novellas with a small e-publisher. The contracts for these stories have long since expired. I presume that alongside that, the rights have reverted to me? I've had emails from the publisher confirming that the books are no longer under contract, and the contracts themselves granted electronic publishing rights to the publisher for a fixed term of 2 years. As far as I can ascertain, none of these stories are still being sold anywhere online. They're not listed in the e-publisher's catalog, and they're not on Amazon, ARe etc.

A couple of these stories were part of an anthology, and another three are standalone novellas. I'm wondering how this affects ISBNs, given that the individually published works had their own ISBNs (and the anthologies obviously had theirs too, although the individual story didn't). I was considering publishing via KDP in the first instance, and I believe I'm correct in saying that they assign their own version of ISBNs to books? Would there be any conflict there if the book already had its own ISBN?

The stories were also edited by the small press -- is this something I need to mention? I'm planning on gutting and revising at least one of them to the point where it'd be substantially different to the original, but a couple of them are ready to go virtually as-is. Do I need to state somewhere that those stories were edited/published previously?

I'd like to self-publish a few of these older stories, mostly just to get a feel for self-publishing in general. Is there anything I need to bear in mind when it comes to previously published stuff vs. new?

Thank you for any advice!

Anyone else psyched for Jessica Jones?

I'm a big MCU fan, I loved Daredevil, I thought Kristen Ritter was alright I Breaking Bad, and I have a massive man-crush on David Tenant, so I'm pretty excited for Jessica Jones and the rest of the Defenders super heroes. Anyone else excited?

Also did you hear about how they've decided to make another Ant-man movie called Ant-man and the Wasp and they're gonna launch another CBS series called Marvel's damage control. All that plus the original MCU films, plus the other shows, plus the netflix series, plus the Spiderman movie they're doing with Sony is going on. Does anyone else think this has the slightest chance of falling apart? I mean I don't want it to, but we gotta understand that's a possibility...

RIP Jerry Parr

For those of you not around in 1981, SA Jerry Parr was the lead detail agent at the Washington Hilton Hotel on March 30, 1981 when John Hinckley, Jr fired on President Reagan. Parr shoved the President in the limo and ordered the driver to head to the White House. When Parr saw the blood on the President's handkerchief, he ordered the driver to diver to George Washington Hospital, saving Reagan's life.

He passed away today at the age of 85, just shy of his 56th wedding anniversary.

There's a photo at Wiki of the entourage just before Hinckley fired. You can see Hinckley in the crowd, which is rather chilling. Look in the crowd just to the right of Officer Delahantay.

Where can I submit my story?

Hello, my fellow writers. I've recently finished a short story (5k words) and I'm looking to submit it for some money. Do you know any contest or magazine or website I should look into? Please no entry fees. Thank you in advance.

Where does my stuff belong?

Don't know if I'm in the right forum here, but here's my question. Well, first things first and I know it's a lot to ask, but here's my blog......http://ift.tt/1hggYGZ. Now, if anyone would be so kind as to skim over it and get a feel for my writing style. I'm not anything special, but I can get a few giggles and get my point across but I don't care. I do this for fun. I have a day job. So, my question.....what publications should I be targeting for my style of writing, or should I branch out or modify my style to expand my target audience? Thanks in advance for those who can be bothered :)

Spacing in emailed sample pages

Does anyone know the proper spacing for MS sample pages when sending an emailed query?

I've heard a few different answers.

Single spaced like the query.
Whatever looks good.
A few agents on blogs have said doubled spaced as if you were sending a paper MS.

Thanks,;)
