I have a question, and I'm not sure if it matters on the writing genre, but if it does, I'm in the process of writing a narrative non-fiction, or memoir.
So the question is, when there is dialogue between two or more people, do you insert a paragraph break after each quoted statement. For example, and I'm just making this up, it's not the actual writing, which method is correct?
Method One
"The weather is nice," Bob said. "Yes it is," I responded.
Method Two
"The weather is nice," Bob said.
"Yes it is," I responded.
And what if there is narration plus dialog as in this example, again, not the actual writing:
Method One
"The weather is nice," Bob said. I looked up at the sky and noticed barely any clouds. It was blue. "Yes it is," I responded.
Method Two
"The weather is nice," Bob said.
I looked up at the sky and noticed barely any clouds. It was blue. "Yes it is," I responded.
So which method is correct? Thanks! rg
