I just self-published my first book. Birds are singing, angels praising and the two main influences for my main character found out and appeared to be appreciative of the inspiration I drew from them.
The problem is, a minor plot point in the second book, which will be a major plot point in the third book, is a bit more heavily inspired by one of those influences than I want to explain right now. Even if I fall back on the defense that he is not the only person of a slightly celebratory nature to have experienced the particular thing that influenced me to write the story, there is a chance he might feel like I'm rubbing salt in an old wound.
I'm going to tread lightly, but I wanted to put this out there. Have any of your major influences, if they were close to you, responded to your book and what was your experience with this?
