American hero and my friend, Chelsea Manning is facing a hearing on August 18 on charges of medicine misuse and contraband books. The medicine abuse? A tube of expired toothpaste. The contraband books? The Caitlyn Jenner Vanity Fair, a Cosmopolitan, and other books obtained legally through the prison's own mailing program. The penalty? Indefinite Solitary Confinement.. The petition here asks for the charges to be dropped or at the least to allow her hearing to be made public.

It could have just as easily been the books I had sent her that they could have used against her. I have little faith in the power of petitions to be honest, but I did sign, and I ask if you believe that this is unreasonable that you consider signing as well. I've not been a good friend to her in recent months, and it's likely I won't get an opportunity to write to her again. So, this is me doing something for her.
