Here's to the things that shouldn't have been queried.

I have it on good authority (a blog post counts as good authority, right?) that all writers, or at least a lot of us, query too soon. Some of the queries for my "needs a scrap-and-redo" book are still out. Every week or so I get another form rejection. They're awfully sweet and "someone will pick this up" and I just want to tell them not to spare my feelings. I know the book sucks. The next one will be better--and it'll be ready to go out when those misguided attempts have gone cold in the trash and the agents have had time to forget it. According to Miss Snark that's about ninety days after they saw the last one.

So, here's to the books that shouldn't have been queried, that people held our hands through anyway, that we have all happily trunked and moved on from. *raises glass*
