I guess it's here that I do some introduction to the world of writing. I mean, where else would I put this passage of both self-praise for actually writing something half decent, and self-loath for only writing something half decent, and probably less than. Anyways, hello! I write YA books (by that I mean I'm currently writing one, and never wrote anything before) about a future society where the world is getting screwed over by the obviously corrupt government, with more power than God, and one teen's quest to survive as he is faced with horror, death, and the depths of human morality while also simultaneously also being forced to actually commit atrocities in order to stay alive. Very original concept there.
But something I feel I do differently is how I try to emulate video game narrative, from games such as Dark Souls and Bioshock. In both games, there is a clear idea of you are joining in as a character who came along in the middle, and having to piece together what was happening via small dialogues and notes, hidden sparsely throughout the game. I also try and emulate Dark Souls' spirit crushing atmosphere, where everything looks and feels like it's old, decrepit, and really just a shadow of what it once was. Maybe I'm not the only one who does this. Maybe everyone sees video game narrative, and tries to mimic that in their books, I simply don't know. That's why I'm here. Because although I can write sentences like the following:
'Our story begins on an unmarked street, one where the sound of bare feet slapping against the cold cement was only drowned out by the rhythmic drum of industry nearby.'
I can't move that into a good story.
So anyways, hello!
and for this post,
Goodbye
