So, I've had my iPod Shuffle for nearly 4 years now. It's been perfect the entire time, until last night when I plugged it into my desktop PC to recharge the battery (I'd used it for a couple hours yesterday, but it hadn't officially run out of battery life yet). Anyway, I got the "USB Device Not Recognised" message, and so I couldn't charge it at all.
So this morning, I plugged it into my laptop, and it did pop up in iTunes briefly, but then disappeared again. So I unplugged it, then plugged it back in, and now it's staying recognised in iTunes. The battery was almost dead, but in the last half hour or so it's essentially recharged to full (well, 85% maybe so far?).
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew what went wrong? For reference, I've just installed the new version of iTunes on both PCs (but installed them *after* the "not recognised" message came up), my desktop is running Windows 8, my laptop is running Windows 7, and this iPod has been plugged into both PCs numerous times, without issue, in the past. I don't have Apple Care (I don't think it was even offered to me, as the Shuffle only cost me $50 on sale, but I know I don't have it), and the store warranty would've long since expired (like I said, I bought this nearly 4 years ago).
Thoughts? Once-off aberration? Sign of the endtimes? Did I somehow piss off a voodoo tech priest?
Like I said, it seems to be working now, and I checked it last night, and even after the error message, turning the Shuffle on still produced music through the headphones.
