Ever answer the phone and the moment you say "Hello" the person or machine at the other end hangs up? It's a robocaller that's waiting for your answering machine or voice mail to take the call so you're forced to listen, even if for a few seconds.

Spammers appear to be adopting a similar tactic, knowing that when you mark an email as spam, your email client or web-based email scans it for a pattern and adds it to its database of suspect spam without ever being seen by human eyes. The result: emails deliberately pile up in the folder the spammers KNOW you need to check to make sure legit emails aren't going there: your spam folder.
