A lot of advice out there on writing focuses on plot and character, which is good and everything, but I've heard a lot of authors criticized for "stale prose". How do you right good sounding prose, what's the key. Is it supposed to be poetic sound, doesn't that just lead to purple, overwrought prose?
What makes for good prose?
