I introduced myself over in the newbie section as a "new" writer, because my writing to date has been in fits and starts.
I'm currently working on a short story; I chose a short story because it is, well, short. I wanted to be able to start and finish something in a reasonable amount of time.
Anywhooo, in your opinion, are a vividly described setting and characters necessary to a good short story?
For example, the story that I'm currently working on has one main character that we know only by name and action, and maybe a few mannerisms. There's no physical description about her, and very little description of the setting. Why? Because I don't think it matters to my story at all.
Thoughts? Opinions?
