Hi everyone! I've been a member of forums before, but this one is... huge. But it's great to finally find a place full of other writers! I've been a wannabe writer for many years, and "won" NaNoWriMo a couple of times, but I've never been able to make writing a habit and end up with a finished product worth subbing. But even though I've fallen off the horse a few times, I recently got back on and am giving it another try. My long term goal is to publish a novel, and I know it's going to take dedication and work to get there.
As far as genre, I mostly read science fiction, fantasy, and historical fiction, and my writing tends to gravitate toward a mashup of those three. If I had to call it something I'd say "Alternate World Historical Fantasy".
When I'm not writing, my day job is as a scientist. I shoot rocks on Mars with a laser. (Ok, actually most days aren't nearly as exciting as all that. Lots of programming and spreadsheets and emails.) But anyway, for those writing Sci-Fi, I'm happy to provide a "scientific" look or help come up with plausible ways to break the laws of physics. :)
