I'm about 99.99% sure that there is a topic that discusses what i'm about to ask somewhere on this forum. However I didn't see anything in the FAQ stickies, either that or I missed it and or am terrible at reading haha.
Annnnyway... From what I can gather on the internet, there is no such thing as 'patenting' a piece of writing. Instead it is automatically copyrighted as you write it, so then, a forum that interested me a good deal was the SYW forum. Now say I were to give the title of my work and an excerpt of the story on that forum... Who is to say someone can't just copy paste that and re-write it and or use the unique title in a story of their own? I must confess that, that is my greatest fear here, but I would be amiss if I also didnt take a rational approach to this. So before I start getting all these ideas in my head, does anyone happen to know exactly how it works? From what I have managed to glean off of searching around, it looks like the popular process goes something along the lines of: Write whatever it is you are going to write>will be automatically copyrighted>share at your own risk>submit complete draft to a publisher>get feedback on what needs to be done and do it>resubmit>have an official publication if approved. That could be 110% true/false, but I think that I would feel much better hearing it from one of you guys, or how it actually works.
Sorry for the read, hope someone can help me.
P.S. if there is this alleged link that I missed to a post that already goes over all this, do share, thanks guys! o.O
Copyright Question!
